Förra året samlades mer än 100 000 hojåkare i 900 städer över hela världen för en gemensam tur i mäns hälsas namn. Den 19 maj 2024 finns det en ny chans att samla in pengar och väcka medvetenhet kring forskning om prostatacancer och mäns mentala hälsa.
Malmö som bland många andra i år finns med som arrangör är särskilt intressant eftersom värdarna kan skilja sig lite från de andra. Klassiska cyklar är kanske det första man förknippar med denna sak, men när det värden Odd Luck Garage i Malmö är klassiker inte det första man tänker på. Kända som bra, kreativa människor, men om du känner behov av att kategorisera dem kommer de förmodligen att passera som en choppergemenskap, mer eller mindre. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride grundades ursprungligen i Sydney, Australien, av Mark Hawwa och idén var inspirerad av ett foto av TV-programmet Mad Men’s Don Draper på en klassisk cykel och klädd i sin finaste kostym. Mark bestämde sig för att en tematur skulle vara ett bra sätt att koppla samman nischade motorcykelentusiaster och gemenskaper samtidigt som man samlar in pengar för att stödja männen i våra liv.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride handlar om klassiska och vintage-stukade hojar och deras förare från hela världen som under denna dag och tur förenas genom klädkoden – gentlemanish. Exakt vad det är, förmodligen olika beroende på vem du frågar men klassisk engelsk tweed kommer att ge dig en uppfattning om vad du kan förvänta dig. Med en värd som Odd Luck kan vi dock tänka oss att ett par klassiska jeans och en snygg skinnjacka skulle vara klassiskt nog. The more or less chopper community Odd Luck Garage is hosting The Distinguised Gentleman’s Ride in Malmö on May 19 2024.
Malmö is particulary interesting since the hosts might differ a little bit from the others. Classic bikes are known as a common ride in this cause but talking about Malmö and the host Odd Luck Garage, classics are not the first thing that comes to mind. Known as good, creative people but if you feel a need to categorize them, they will probably pass as a chopper community more or less. But the cause is certainly everyones and illness hits all of us. Chopper heads, classic nerds, reace freaks or dirt eaters we are basically all the same.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was originally founded in Sydney, Australia, by Mark Hawwa and the idea was inspired by a photo of TV Show Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit. Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way of connecting niche motorcycle enthusiasts and communities while raising funds to support the men in our lives.
