Just some days ago, the Swedish federation for motorsport – Svemo informed us as race organizers that they from now on will require a starting permission for all foreign riders including the neighbouring countrys such as Norway, Finland and Denmark. It wasn’t all happy faces, but to be honest the idea of a responsible federation isn’t all bad. By the permit both organizers as well as riders can feel safe if the accidents show theimselves from the ugly side. Then everyone know, that the rider can get the emergency care required and the club organizing are safe from unexpected cost.
As a rider its of course an extra step of administration, one mail to your federation to be exact, but still some of us hate paperwork especially when we know we are good to go. Nevertheless this requirement allready applies in most of the other motorsports, such as speedway, MX and roadracing. In Flat track due to its relativily new in our hood, we have been flying a bit under the radar since start, but time has catched up and with the increasing amount of riders, there is no longer a way as an organizer to have knowledge of all riders participating and thats why the starting permission is now required.
Due to the not so happy faces, Svemo has agreed on a temporary solution for 2026, to give us riders a smoother transition and time to get used to this new routine. The organizers are responsible to send the starting lists to the federation after last sign up date. The federation will then check all the licenses with each federation and hopefully give all participants a green light. This will apply on the Nordic countrys. For riders from outside of Scandinavia an individual starting permit will still be required, already from now on.
From 2027 the new requirement will apply in full swing, but Svemo agreed to a very practical solution and will make one permit application form for all Swedish flat track races in the calender of the year. This means that you as a rider only need to send one mail to your federation for all races you belive you will race in Sweden. Even if we truly hate administration, this will only require a very small effort from all of us.
For all races in Sweden during 2026 the temporary solution will apply for all nordic riders, while the rest need to get the starting permission by sending the form, you get after signing up, to your federation for approval.
So lets focus on the fun part, the administration part is just a few steps to get there!
